At Hemingway, we like to work with the PACT measurement. It is an online tool that provides a clear picture in a short amount of time of where a participant is naturally strong, what has been learned and is driven by “performance strength,” and where the most obvious development opportunities lie. Aspects such as vision, strategic ability, communication skills, and “business orientation” become clear.
We use PACT in board evaluations because it helps clarify how and, most importantly, why commissioners operate the way they do within the board, and what pitfalls this may cause. Together with the entire board, we review the aggregated and anonymized results, which makes certain patterns within the board clear and explainable. By better understanding the various profiles, it also becomes apparent what the strengths of the board are, as well as the areas of focus and gaps. This provides a very good starting point for concrete improvements and for further diversifying the board.
